Fun Food Fridays: Grilled Cheese with a Kick
I’ll admit, I’m not a huge sandwich eater. After taking a sandwich to school for lunch day after day, year after year, until I graduated, I’m pretty tired of them.
But, when I want a sandwich, my first choice is a grilled cheese. This recipe takes the kid-friendly grilled cheese and makes it all gown up and spicy.
INGREDIENTS
- Shredded cheese (I like packaged, shredded, Cheddar)
- 1 can condensed pepper jack cheese soup
- Bread
- Butter
In a bowl, mix together the shredded cheese and the pepper jack cheese soup. The mixture should be thick but still spreadable.
Preheat a skillet or griddle on your camp stove. Butter one side of the bread and lay butter-side-down into the skillet to brown.
Butter the other slice of bread. On the non-buttered side, spread some of the cheese-soup mixture.
When the slice of bread in the skillet is warm and browning, lay the other slice of bread on top, making sure to keep the cheese mixture between the two slices of bread. Flip over when the bread is brown. The sandwich is done when the cheese mixture is hot and melted and both sides of the sandwich are brown.
Be sure to eat this over a plate since it is VERY gooey. I like it with apple slices it it’s hot out or a bowl of soup if it’s cool!
